January Tasting
Report: Riesling & Reds
Presented
by: David Wright of Awin Barratt Siegel
Our tasting this evening was
a delightful comparison of the Dr Loosen Rieslings from the traditional slate-soil vineyards in the Mosel valley. Followed
by a comparison of Pinot Noir from Germany, Tasmania and Chile.
Our first tasting was Dr Loosen Red Slate Dry Riesling
2010 was dry, full, spicy with good balance 12.5% alcohol - all for £9.95
Second in our tasting - Dr Loosen
Riesling Estate QbA 2010 at 7.5% alcohol. A sweet, fruity, well balanced wine which would be excellent with smoked fish.
£9.15
Third in our tasting - Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Kabinett 2010 - again 7.5% alcohol. Slightly
effervescent, fresh and fruity. £13.20
Next - Dr Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese 2010 again
7.5% alcohol. Intensely sweet, floral, fruity. £21.25
Then onto the pinot noir - Villa Wolf Pinot
Noir Rose 2010 from Germany - 11.5% alcohol. A fresh, light, very pleasant summer wine. £8.79
The second of our pinot noir, again a Villa Wolf Pinot Noir 2009 from Germany 13% alcohol. Lovely nose with aromas
of raspberries, mushrooms with just a hint of bite. £9.95
Then onto the Tasmanian pinot - Devil's
Corner 2010 at 13.5% fairly hefty! A bright colour, light flavour with that mushroomy, almost must aroma and good value
at £12.40.
Lastly, a really big powerful pinot - Casas del Bosque Gran Reserva 2009 from Chile 14.5% alcohol.
A very robust, full bodied wine, intense and delicious. £12.60
